Mechanical Satellite Engineer
£31.64 Umbrella & £23.92 PAYE
To provide coordination of Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) activities based on robust processes, activity control sheets (ACSs) and procedures, for the AIT of earth, navigation and scientific spacecraft. Supporting spacecraft environmental testing including thermal, vibration, payload deployment, shock testing and launch activities at launch site.
Production Engineering & Assembly
High mechanical skills and relevant experience.
Procedures and process control.
Able to work offsite (UK and abroad) for undefined periods at short notice.
Work overtime and shifts is expected.
Able to support out of normal hours work using the “on call” rota process.
Practical and proactive.
Quality driven approach with high attention to detail.
Knowledge and experience in the production of high quality documentation (test specs, test plans, test procedures, AIT Plans, DDV plans).
High self-motivation and ability to deal with changing priorities on a multi project basis.
ISO 8 Clean room practices.
Good problem solving skills (technical, logistics and organisational).
Good planning skills and process competence, (MRP system experience an advantage).
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Previous experience of spacecraft AIT is a distinct advantage.
Good time management.
Appreciation of satellite AIT processes and project phases.
Experience of Lean engineering and MRP systems such as SAP.
Optical alignment of equipment using theodolites.
Mechanical design / validation / experience
Knowledge of continuous improvement philosophies
Knowledge of Health and Safety principles and their application to the specific environment
Rudimentary understanding of RF properties and associated risks.
Occasional travel to other UK sites. Regular spells of work at overseas sites
Base of Work
Whilst in the UK his role will be working on site full time – free parking is provided for this role in a local car park approximately fifteen minutes’ walk from site
Shift lead duties will apply to this role whilst in the factory – as during periods of working in Turin and Toulouse on an ad hoc basis for periods of several months – for which a detached duty uplift at 15% will be paid across the board plus an additional flexible working uplift of 20% to recognise the need for flexibility of start and finish times
