Cost Engineer/Estimator J11132

Responsible to: Project Manager - Cost Save

SCOPE
To provide engineering cost analysis to the cost down team, supporting the new whole vehicle development programme for a low volume automotive OEM.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key member of the cost down team.

Removing costs from existing vehicle BOM.

Optimising design costs and streamline the supply chain for new development programme.

Involvement in the whole vehicle design.

Key role in achieving the aggressive cost down targets set.

Cost Prediction of designed components

From the concept of a component/ assembly, propose the different material specifications suitable for the application.

Suggest a range of cost effective manufacturing processes that could be used to produce the component.

Work with the engineers to simplify design to reduce process costs, and provide an initial cost estimate for the product that can be transferred to the Buyers on the team to chase.

Excellent knowledge of material specifications and relevant surface coatings and heat treatments.

Wide range of understanding of manufacturing methods, and good judgement of the associated costs.

At least 5 years + work experience within the Aerospace / Automotive sector or similar industries.

Good understanding of cost save philosophy.

Beneficial to have experience of design for assembly / manufacture methodology.

Experience of logistics costs and methods of transporting.

Enjoy managing a number of jobs simultaneously with totally different functions.
