Mechanical Design Lead Engineer
Main Purpose of Job: (NB: In addition to these functions employees
are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably
required.)
To provide practical, cost effective and compliant solutions to
hardware design problems.
Reporting To (Title) Engineering & Technology Manager
Key Responsibilities:
To produce electrical/electronic hardware designs, defining the
solutions to engineering design problems.
To produce engineering reports, design calculations, and technical
specifications.
To produce statements of work (SOW) and specifications for work to
be undertaken by subcontractors. Assist the Project Manager and
Project Engineer in the monitoring of subcontractor technical
performance against the SOW and specifications.
To produce and modify drawings and BoMs.
To select the most appropriate hardware components to be used in
design solutions.
To undertake checking of drawings and BoMs produced by colleagues.
To complete all assigned hardware design tasks on time, to
specification and within the agreed budget.
To provide input to bid activities of hardware design data,
estimated costs to implement the design and data to form the basis
of the manufacturing cost estimates.
To adhere to all Company and contractual standards, processes and
procedures applicable to hardware design.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Broad hardware design experience based on working on a large range
of products.
Knowledge and experience of a wide range of manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of and experience in in-house CAD tools.
Good PC skills (Excel, Word).
COMPLEXITY AND CREATIVITY - PROBLEM SOLVING
Working within hardware design guidelines and standards, the job
involves creativity in the development of design solutions.
There is a requirement to analyse and decompose technical problems.
JUDGEMENTS AND DECISIONS - ADVICE:
Judgements and decisions made are within the constraints of the
technical specification and the agreed budget and timescales for the
allocated tasks- within these constraints, the job holder has
freedom to exercise judgement and make decisions according to their
level of seniority.
